About the Aircraft: Two prototypes of the XV-3 were built beginning in 1955. The four-seat fuselage had a radial engine to drive the rotors. The landing gear consisted of helicopter-type skids. The convertiplane was developed by Bell with the U.S. Armed Forces. It was the world's first tilt-rotor, fixed wing aircraft to achieve a 100% tilting of its rotors. With the XV-3 the entire wing rotated with the engines.
